spring jewels

I've been busy finishing up projects before I leave town. I'll be carting my crochet project with me. I haven't been able to sit and stitch as much. Seems that the repetitive motion , hand and arm positions aren't responding well to spastic muscles.

This was an assignment from the watercolor class I'm taking. It's a good lesson for me as I need to get more comfortable loosening up. It has a limited pallet and a cropped composition. It was fun.

Taking the class has been good for me in itself. They are a very nice group of people at the Art Center and I have an interesting instructor. It's been motivating and has created a momentum to make better use of my time at home.

All in all I'd say that it's proved to be good medicine for me.

The Blessed Event

The due date is drawing near. My daughter-in-law and son are ready. I'm preparing to fly next week to be with them in anticipation of the Blessed Event. (Remember Kill The Wabbit?)

I remember when I was pregnant with my children, my grandma and great aunts would not refer to me as "pregnant". I was "with child" or "in a family way". The birth itself was not "labor, or delivery, it was referred to as simply, "the Blessed Event".

I always thought it just odd or quirky of them, but being devout Catholics I always had the feeling that it was just a prudish way of referring to the consequences of sex without any verbal ques that the woman involved wasn't anything but as pure as the Mother of God herself.

I'll be flying next Friday, navigating my layovers and connecting flights with my cane and carryon baggage. It's always an adventure, but I feel up to the task. I have been as stable as I have ever been with my MS lately. (somebody knock wood)
I've been busy preparing to leave the boys (Bubbie's Hubby and the Furry Monster), cooking and freezing the dog food (yes Martha is still alive), finishing some art projects, and gathering my stuff to pack.

So I leave you for awhile with this present. I Googled "Blessed Event " and besides the Pope's Holy Schedule for his visit to New york City, I found this recipe:

bees do it

I am a patient gardener.
I have had this specimen for 6 years and this is the very first bloom. I was told that it's a vanilla bean orchid. It grows like a terrestrial vine. I had never seen one in bloom before . The "orchid man" at the green house I visit often told me the vine needed to mature to somewhere around 20 feet or more before it will flower. Then I was told that when that happened I would have to play the part of Mother Nature's pollinating creatures since it lives on my patio, and make use of one of my small paint brushes and tickle it, I guess...if I wanted the flowers to create the coveted vanilla bean. ( I can only guess what my inner Martha will make with those)
Well, I did the deed and only time will tell if it was good for her. Oddly/Sadly? I'm a little excited.
